Set in beautiful walled gardens, with spectacular Atlas views, this large villa with superb staff near Marrakech with a huge pool and tennis court is a great get-together venue.
Villa Tamara is an impressive country house, situated 13 kilometres south of Marrakech on the road to the Ourika Valley and the Atlas Mountains. It is a twenty-minute drive from the centre of town and the airport. This wonderful house is suitable for all ages from small babies to less active grandparents. Built by a French Colonel in 1925, the style is now mainly Mediterranean which complements the high ceilings and light, spacious rooms. Traditional decorating techniques have been used; Tadelakt (polished plaster) works well alongside Zelige tiles, Diss and Bejmatt local bricks. The ceilings in the villa are 5 metres high, and the walls 0.5 metres thick which provides great insulation from the heat, and the chill of winter’s evenings.
Within the main house, there is a large entrance hall leading to the Dining Room which seats up to 14 guests. The Drawing Room has a log fire which is lit on winter days and evenings if required. The drawing room has 1930’s Egyptian wall hangings, and antique textiles collected by the family blend beautifully with mother-of-pearl inlaid Syrian mirrors and furniture. French doors lead out onto the terrace, with a seating area and bougainvillea covered pergola which provides shade for one of the dining table.
In the library, there is a large selection of books to read; classics, travel/guide, novels etc, as well as Smart Television with real time UK and European channels. A 25-metre corridor takes you to: 4 double/twin bedrooms and bathrooms which all have comfortable beds, ceiling fans and air-conditioning. .
There are stairs to the Roof Terrace which has a spectacular view of the Atlas Mountains, and cushioned seating area under a pergola for up to 16 guests. This is where pre-dinner drinks are normally served and is ideal for a yoga practice first thing.
The mature 2 hectare garden is enclosed by high walls and is abundant with mature trees as well as 90 olive trees. The birdsong is wonderful, and the house is an ideal spot for the keen bird-watcher.
